What the OMTech Polar Lite is
The Polar Lite is OMTech’s 55W desktop CO2 laser engraver and cutter. OMTech sells it on its own US store in four packages. We read the prices off OMTech’s product page on 21 October 2026. The 55W Standard Package costs 2,199.99 dollars. The 55W Rotary Package is 2,299.99, the 55W LightBurn Package is 2,399.99, and the 55W LightBurn + Rotary Package is 2,499.99. That last one is the package the page selects by default, so it’s the price shown at the top. OMTech listed all four as available that day.
Work area, speed and cutting
OMTech rates the laser at 55W. The standard processing area is 510 by 300 mm, or 20.1 by 11.8 inches. Front and rear openings of 400 by 7 mm let longer stock pass through the machine. Top processing speed is 500 mm per second. OMTech gives accuracy as plus or minus 0.02 mm and maximum resolution as 1000 dpi. Material can be up to 17 mm thick on the workbed, or 51 mm with the workbed removed.
On cutting, OMTech’s own product graphic claims up to 0.61 inches of wood and up to 1 inch of acrylic in a single pass. It doesn’t say which wood or which acrylic it used.
Cooling, camera and software
The water chiller is built in. OMTech gives it a capacity of 2 litres and a flow rate of 540 litres per hour, and the page’s own comparison table sets that against the external pump that OMTech’s cheaper K40+ relies on for its water cooling. There is an 18.8 cfm air assist pump and built in exhaust fans rated at 282 cfm. There’s a 5MP camera, and autofocus is a single click in the software.
The machine connects over Wifi, USB cable or Ethernet. It ships with RDWorks, and OMTech lists LightBurn as compatible. Two of the four packages include a LightBurn licence. A rotary axis isn’t in the box with the Standard Package. The Rotary and LightBurn + Rotary packages add one.
Safety and size
OMTech lists five safety features. Cover protection and an emergency stop halt the machine when the lid opens or the button is pressed. The body is fully enclosed. A safety lock guards against unauthorised use. A water temperature alert warns you when the water passes 107°F. And OMTech calls it an FDA certified Class 1 laser. The specification table lists CE and FDA certification and a 24 month warranty. The machine measures 1045 by 565 by 280 mm and weighs 41 kg. OMTech puts the laser’s service life at about 11,000 hours.
How it differs from the Polar 2
The Polar 2 has its own listing here, and it’s a bigger, dearer machine. On 21 October 2026 OMTech sold it with a 50W RF tube at 4,999.99 dollars or a 70W glass tube at 3,699.99. Both have a 710 by 360 mm work area, a 16MP camera and a rotary in the box, and OMTech quotes the Polar 2 at up to 2000 mm per second with the RF tube and 1200 with the glass tube, where the Polar Lite tops out at 500.
So where does the Polar Lite win? On price, and on its front and rear openings. OMTech’s Polar 2 FAQ says that machine has no pass through doors at all.
What we don’t know yet
Every figure above is OMTech’s own. We took them from its Polar Lite and Polar 2 product pages on 21 October 2026. Planet 3DP hasn’t tested a Polar Lite. OMTech doesn’t publish the laser’s wavelength. It also doesn’t say whether the 55W tube is glass or RF, so neither is listed here. One number on the page disagrees with itself. The FAQ gives the processing area as 500 by 300 mm, while the specification table says 510 by 300 mm. This listing uses the specification table.
